London Backpackers

Cheap London backpackers and hostels in London

Cheap London backpackers hostels are numerous and spread right across the city, though major clusters of backpacker hostels are found in budget accommodation areas of Bayswater, Kensington and London Bridge.

Needless to say London backpackers dormitory rates are highly seasonal.

Clearly biggest demand is in the summer months when students are able to travel extensively. However there is not the dramatic price change between weekends and the working week that many hotels feature in London.

You also of course pay more the closer you are to the centre of the city, though because of London’s excellent public transport it is no real handicap staying a little way out.

It should be pointed out that if there are two or three of you some of the cheap London backpackers or Bed and Breakfast hotels can be similarly priced to a hostel dormitory.

Many of the independent hostels trade heavily on what the more staid YHA hostels can’t provide. No curfews, mixed dormitories, party nights, free walking tours and young energetic staff trying to add value to the hostel experience.

Most hostels have both mixed dormitories and female dormitories.

Clearly most of the London bacpackers are aimed at the youth market. Many London hostels do not allow anyone under 18 to stay in a dormitory, a few have an upper age limit as well, typically 35.

There is also quite a wide divergence in what you get for the nightly dormitory rate. The majority provide linen and a locker (bring your own lock).

Some throw in breakfast, at others you pay for it, but most provide free wi-fi. Most will provide laundry and cooking facilities, but there are exceptions.

Many hostels have a bar and try to encourage a party feel organising activities or put on walking tours.
